Colorectal cancer patients with BRAF gene mutation will have worse response to the treatment of Cetuximab and Panitumumab. As a prognostic marker,BRAF gene mutation detection is important for the diagnosis and prognosis of colorectal cancer and thyroid cancer.Studies have shown that some patients with wild-type KRAS gene is also resistant to EGFR-targeted drugs, which is due to the gene mutation of downstream BRAF.

Clinical Practice Guideline for colorectal cancer (NCCN) (2016 V2 Edition) suggest that the status of KRAS should be detected while using the targeted drugs such as Cetuximab and Panitumumab. If there is no mutation in KRAS, a further detection of BRAF gene status should be considered.
